Digital Transmission Service
|
Telecommunications Service |
Use this when you are seeking a broadband connection that just provides transport. For circuits that have a defined speed, such as T-1, the online application will automatically populate the bandwidth speeds. If you are not sure of the upload and download speeds of your connection, check with your service provider. Do not file your FRN in Telecommunications Service if you are purchasing a broadband circuit that comes with Internet Access. In that case, use the Internet Access service type. |
Digital Transmission Service |
Internet Access |
Use this when you are seeking a broadband circuit that comes with Internet Access. For circuits that have a defined speed, such as T-1, the online application will automatically populate the bandwidth speeds. If you are not sure of the upload and download speeds of your connection, check with your service provider. You should select this option if you are purchasing Internet Access that comes with the broadband connection to your school/library. |
IA Only (no circuit) |
Internet Access |
Use this when you are purchasing Internet access without any accompanying broadband connectivity. This is Internet Access at the provider's point of presence, but does not also provide the physical connection FROM that provider's point of presence to the school or library. Do not select this generically to designate any Internet Access service. Note that "(no circuit)" is the operative term – if the circuit connecting the schools and libraries to the provider's point of presence is included with the service, you should select "Digital Transmission Service." |
Purpose – Internet |
Internet Access |
Select this for a connection from a particular school/library or aggregation point (such as a district's central hub or a library's main branch) to an Internet service provider (ISP). This can also be a direct Internet access connection to a single school or library not on a Wide Area Network. |
Purpose – Transport |
Telecommunications Service |
Select this for dedicated data connections between eligible school or library buildings, often referred to as a Wide Area Network. (Do not select this category if your WAN service is bundled with/includes Internet; instead select "Internet and Transport.") |
Purpose – Internet and Transport |
Telecommunications Service and Internet Access |
Select this for bundled service providing both the connection to an ISP from a particular building or aggregation point as well as the data connections between multiple school or library buildings. Do not select this category if your invoice itemizes Internet access and Transport (Wide Area Network connections) separately. Enter each of those services as separate line items and select either "Internet" or "Transport." |
Burstable Bandwidth |
Telecommunications Service and Internet Access |
If you can sometimes get more bandwidth than what is normally provided, indicate the speed of such additional bandwidth. For example, your ISP may be able to provide additional bandwidth for certain high-demand times of the year, such as student testing periods. Check with your provider if you are not sure if this is an option for you. Generally speaking, the only limitation of bandwidth is the physical medium itself. |
Last Mile Connection |
Telecommunications Service and Internet Access |
Indicate yes if this is the physical connection that brings Internet access or Transport to the school or library. A last mile connection is defined as the connection to an individual school or library building, such as a Wide Area Network connection or a direct Internet connection not on a Wide Area Network. Last mile should NOT include the Internet circuit to a district hub. |
WAN |
Telecommunications Service and Internet Access |
Indicate yes if this circuit connects one or more of your schools/libraries together. Excluded from this definition is a network that provides connections between or among buildings of a single school campus or between or among buildings of a single library campus, when those connections do not cross a public right of way. WAN can be leased as a Telecommunications Service, or, if leasing of the WAN is the most cost-effective means of obtaining Internet access, it can be applied for in Internet Access. In that case, the service must be limited strictly to basic conduit access to the Internet. Do not choose "WAN" if the purpose of the circuit is not either "Transport" or "Internet and Transport." |
